/> -Willie P. Bennett

These are some women who work at Chu Shing, across the street from my house. I like this picture because it’s brightly coloured and confusing.

Although I’m tired of leaves, and I agree that the purpose of seasons is to give photographers something new to photograph, I can’t resist a couple more. Here’s a tree like a lollipop.

And two of leaves against the sky.

Yellow

Orange

I’ve solved a mystery. On January 6, 2007 I asked, “What’s on the other end of this rope?” It was frozen into the ice on the boardwalk at Dow’s Lake.

Here’s the answer. It’s a rope to nowhere. Somehow solving this mystery wasn’t very satisfying. There must be more to it!

What else?

Leaves

I really am tired of leaves, so I will try to bring back one good picture I can post that doesn’t have leaves in it. Well, it might have leaves IN it, but it won’t be OF leaves. (That picture up top doesn’t have leaves in it, but it isn’t that good a picture.)

7 random things meme

I was tagged for the 7 random things meme. I tried to give it away, but I don’t know if that’s going to stick.

Maybe I’ll do the meme. Maybe not. Definitely I won’t be tagging 7 others. There aren’t 7 bloggers left to tag.

Not tagging anyone else feels a bit like breaking a chain letter, which I always do. I refuse to be held hostage by chain letters. I know the random things meme isn’t a chain letter, but it feels like one.

Zoom has resorted to tagging non-bloggers, who seem to like it. But they haven’t been blurting out random things about themselves on blogs for the last couple of years. They’ve got hundreds of random things cluttering up their brains. I think they should get them out by posting them as comments on Zoom’s blog.

Facebook Scrabble

I’m playing too much Scrabble on facebook. How much is too much? Over 900 games is too much.

Not that I think there’s anything wrong with playing Scrabble. It’s good for you. But it takes up time when you could be doing something else, such as watching movies and posting reviews of them on the other part of this blog.

I’ve watched four or five movies this month, but I haven’t managed to post reviews of them. I hope to do this before the end of October. And start watching more. I love movies when beastly Scrabble doesn’t get in the way.

I’m quite competitive about Scrabble. My stats for the 900 games are that I win 80% of the time. This is mostly playing against random strangers. When I play someone who is a known good player, I only expect to win around 50% of the time, which isn’t good for my stats. So I don’t play against known good players very often.

I think this is a bit sick. Maybe I need an intervention.

That’s it. I’ll try and bring back that picture. Goodbye!
<hr

This is whatI came up with:

It’s kind of like doing your best on a school project and getting an A for itand putting it up on the wall. It makes you feel good.(Or even if you only got a B or a C, somebody will still probablylike it. Your momdefinitely.)

I realize some blogs intend to express deep thoughts about politics and culture.I think those are good blogs but my preference is for blogs thatdeal with daily life in a particular place.

Here’s Eliza Gilkyson tuning up at this year’s Ottawa Folk Festival.

I met Eliza Gilkyson. Itoldher what a huge fan I am. “Thank you,” she said. She was very pleasant and friendly in this brief fan encounter, and attractive as well:sort of tall and blonde and rangy.

Here’sFerron at the same workshop.

I also met Ferron once, at a concert in Peterborough. As I was buying one of her CDs I told her it seemed likeher music hadalways been there in my life, marking the passing of the years. She signed my CD, “For the sweet passing of time.”

If you don’t know Ferron,I think you should get one of her CDs at once. I recommend “Testimony” or “Shadows On a Dime.”

Update: Oh-oh, those are out of print.I have them butnowadays all my music isMP3s. I don’t have the CDs. The later albums are good too,but I like the early ones better. I understand there is a greatest hits album called “Impressionistic,” but I haven’t heard it.

If you don’t know Eliza Gilkyson, I recommend “Paradise Hotel,” “Land of Milk and Honey,” or “Hard Times in Babylon.” Those you can get.

These are probably the only celebrities I’ve ever met. Imagine them playing at the same workshop! No wonder I had to be there.
