href="http://exurbanpedestrian.wordpress.com/2008/07/30/your-helmets-too-tight-maybe/">XUP’s blog for a raging debate about cyclists on the sidewalk.<br

There he glares discontentedly at me as he pushes flashlights, pens, and hard drives onto the floor with his feet.<br

Here he is waiting for a call. I don’t know what he’s doing with the can of beans. I didn’t think he liked them.

This is actually one of the most annoying things my cat does, because he has found a way to shut down the computer by pressing certain keys with his feet. I don’t know what keys they are. I can’t do it.

Oh, you know I love my cat. But he can stand a little teasing.

Today I saw this small murder of crows on Lorne Ave.

According to the American Society of Crows and Ravens, “A ‘murder’ of crows is based on the persistent but fallacious folk tale that crows form tribunals to judge and punish the bad behavior of a member of the flock. If the verdict goes against the defendant, that bird is killed (murdered) by the flock. The basis in fact is probably that occasionally crows will kill a dying crow who doesn’t belong in their territory or much more commonly feed on carcasses of dead crows. Also, both crows and ravens are associated with battlefields, medieval hospitals, execution sites and cemeteries (because they scavenged on human remains). In England, a tombstone is sometimes called a ravenstone.”

I’ve been meaning to show you this rainbow I saw on Monday night. This is looking up Gladstone from Preston. It was a complete bow — you could see both ends of it — but I couldn’t get it all in the picture.

That’s all I’ve got for today. Have a happy long weekend!

Lady in Pink

All topics

Dow's Lake

Lady in Pink

The man with two hats
<guid

Across the street from the office where I work is this apartment building for the descendants of Elvis Presley.

But enough of the fast lane. I like the colours of this fungus down by Dow’s Lake. I also like the soft green of the tree bark.

Here’s my old pal The Man With Two Hats and a friend. I think they’re dating. So that’s what he’s so excited about!

What is on the other end of this rope?

The woman in the pink coat reminds me of Michael Snow’s Walking Woman. I had a lot of trouble finding an image of the Walking Woman to put here. This one is pretty small but you can get an idea. See the blue banner?

Snow is a Canadian artist who used the Walking Woman as a motif for paintings and sculptures during the 1960s. Sometimes he took large silkscreened Walking Women into the real world and filmed them.

This walking woman is on her way to the Carling O-Train station. Those other people are all enjoying a walk on the little wooded path that runs beside the tracks for a few blocks. I like that path a lot.

I can never resist a shot of the O-Train pulling into a station. Bon voyage lady in pink. All aboard for Greenboro!

Adobe bye-bye

Here is a bit of neighbourhood business gossip: Adobe has completely moved out of the building formerly known as the Adobe building. I got this picture off the Adobe corporate website, which hasn’t heard the news.

I went to take a look. The sign is gone and the Adobe building is full of workmen doing renovations. (Both buildings.) This poster is on the door:

I went by 343 Preston to see what was up. It turned out to be one of the new office towers that are set in behind these new storefronts.

Here is a picture of 343 reflecting its twin, the Clarica bulding.

I’ve never been inside the old Adobe building, but I must say its brick facade looks a lot more welcoming than this new glass and steel one.

(Actually that’s not true. I applied for a job there when it was still JetForm. I couldn’t remember if they made forms or jets, so I didn’t get the job. Darn! I studied that too.)

And no trespassing! (This is not at Adobe.)

<img
