Same place as yesterday’s dead moth. I think they’re quite beautiful, although I admit that yesterday’s got more disgusting the longer I looked at it. Until somebody found an angel in it.

I don’t even know if it’s a moth. I’m sure someone will tell me. Anyway I can’t resist taking their pictures because unlike living insects, they stay put. Just like this Billings Bridge goose!

When I was a kid in BC we called these Cabbage Moths. According to Wikipedia, it is a small- to medium-sized butterfly (not moth) species of the Yellows-and-Whites family Pieridae. It is also commonly known as the Small Cabbage White.

I find them quite hard to photograph. They don’t stay long on a flower, and their flight is fluttery and unpredictable. This one was at the Arboretum. You can tell it’s a female by the dark spots in the middle of its wings.
