Old hotel about done

Parts of Somerset House were demolished yesterday, including the top of the mural wall. Experts claim the old hotel’s goose isn’t necessarily cooked, but it’s hard to see how it’s going to survive this.

I tried to get down and take some pictures, but I got hung up at work. Some meeting. By the time I got there it was snowing like crazy and getting dark too. Here are a couple of pictures anyway.

Snow storm

Then I walked home in the snow. Here’s Somerset going west.

Look how cozy that little storefront on Somerset looks. I don’t know what’s going on in there nowadays. I remember it as an art gallery, a pet groomer, and a coffee shop with one table, and I’m told it used to house the used record store “The Turning Point,” now on Cooper. But these days it’s private.

Even car lights can look good on a snowy evening.

Now why would you post that? It’s hopelessly out of focus.

But I like it. It’s a good thing I’m so much more humble now than I used to be.

Oh Canada! Sometimes I wonder if we live here on purpose, or if it’s just some kind of weird accident. Or a failure of the imagination. Maybe if we could imagine Jamaica, we’d be there.
