I missed posting a picture yesterday. No reason, I just got distracted after watching the evening’s movies.

The movie theme was “Lethal games,” with reference to “The Hunger Games”. (Which I have not seen, but I’m working my way through the books. I’m on the third one. I’m finding it slow going compared to the first two.)

The movies were “The Game”, with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn, and “Battle Royale”, with lots of Japanese kids killing each other. I bailed on both of them.

I found “The Game” puzzling and disturbing. It had a lot of seemingly pointless action — people running around, car chases — and pervasive feelings of paranoia and dread, with no purpose that I could see. It wasn’t the kind of cinematic experience that I find rewarding.

I read some reviews today, so I realize that I missed the point. I bailed too soon. Maybe I’ll try that one again some time.

The setup for “Battle Royale” — a bunch of kids forced to participate in killing games — is so much like that of “The Hunger Games” that the author of “The Hunger Games” should mention the Japanese film in every interview she ever gives. But the movie itself lacked inspiration. It just went on and on. After a dozen or so killings I bailed on it.

Maybe that one gets better in the end too, but I’ll probably never find out.
