Waiting for pho

Pho Thu Do, my favourite pho joint. I like to sit in the window seat but this time I got takeout. They’re at 781 Somerset W.

While you’re sitting there waiting for your pho they give you a glass of cold tea with ice cubes in it, no charge. Even if you are taking pictures of the empty restaurant. (I was early though, it always fills up.)

I’m sure you know that pho is Vietnamese noodle soup. Pho ga is chicken and Pho bo is beef. (Well, obviously!) And it’s good.

You can ask for vegetarian and they will bring it to you without any meat in it, but there is always meat in the broth. It wouldn’t be pho otherwise. So forget about it.

Craving pho after work, I hit the New Pho Bo Ga La. You can’t miss it. It’s right across the street from the Old Pho Bo Ga La.

If you go into a pho joint by yourself, they bring you hot tea in a glass. Two people get a teapot and china cups.

I like to sit in the window seat so I can watch the world go by.

This woman was sitting at the next table.

I ordered three pork spring rolls and a medium size beef pho. The pho comes with a dish of bean sprouts, some fresh coriander and lemongrass, and a wedge of lime. And a single lethal-looking red pepper. I don’t eat the red pepper.

I do eat the hot sauce.

Total: $10.43 with tax. It was pho good! I’m stuffed.

On the way home I took a picture of this pigeon. Even if pigeons are the unloved rat-birds of the city, I still think they’re good-looking birds. This one was balancing acrobatically on one foot.
