“Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville (born 16 July 1661, Ville-Marie, now Montreal, Canada — died, probably, on 9 July 1706, Havana, Cuba), was a soldier, ship captain, explorer, colonial administrator, knight of the order of Saint-Louis, adventurer, privateer, trader, and founder of the French colony of Louisiana. He is probably the most famous son of New France and the first great French adventurer born in America.”

This is one of the statues of famous warriors called “The Valiants,” next to the National War Memorial. To my eyes these are odd little sculptures, because — being life size — they look too small. Smaller than life.

I made d’Iberville look bigger than the Chateau Laurier, just to compensate. In the background you can see tiny Joseph Brant. I posted a picture of his statue once before, here:
