She’s the one on the right holding a torch, although you can’t see it very well. Her friend is Lady Peace. They are the two winged figures atop the National War Memorial in downtown Ottawa.

Unfortunately I had to miss the main event in monuments going on today: the official opening of the Chinatown Archway. I saw the bright red chairs and the little stage they set up for the bigwigs, and then I had to go.

I really like the arch. How could you not?

I’ve learned that the Chinese characters in the middle of it simply say “welcome to Chinatown.”

In this picture the lions haven’t been unveiled yet. Chinese lions are very interesting. They look more like large, flat-toothed dogs, and in an upcoming post I’m going to tell you why.
