I like it when I get home and find that I’ve taken a picture of a bird’s footprints and disappearing feet.

That picture reminds me of this one of a duck, from the summer. It’s originally in the post For the birds.

Here’s the original pigeon, not yet real gone.

Then I noticed this painting on a wall on Albert St. I like it but I don’t understand it. What is the draft dodger doing? Who are those blue people?

And nearby, this interesting wall at the back of the Glue Pot pub.

Accident sleuths

I had a summer job near the Glue Pot, just before I finished studying to be a technical writer. It was one of those FSWEP student jobs (Federal Students’ Work Experience Program). I worked for Mr. Murray Dance at Transport Canada on Kent.

Murray was the car-seat and seatbelt guy. He’s retired now. Murray used to specify that he wanted his summer students to be unilingual English, because he thought too many government jobs go to francophones. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it was lucky for me.

One thing we used to do is go out in the sunshine of Sparks Street with magnifying glasses and peer at seat belts that had been through accidents. Murray claimed he could tell if the seat belt had been in use at the time of the accident. He said he could see the tell-tale signs of traumatic wear. (This was important for insurance reasons, because people who have not had their seat belts done up during an accident might have a hard time collecting. Murray was of the opinion that even though everyone says they had their seat belt done up, quite a few of them are lying.)

I never saw a thing, not even with Murray jabbing his finger at a blemish on the belt and yelling “See that! See that!”

Sometimes I’d pretend I could see it. I guess I’m just not cut out to be an accident investigator.

Oh no

New Buzz this weekend. Here we go again. (See Buzz experiment)

I actually thought those other Buzzes eventually got taken in, after I had picked them up and put them back in my neighbours’ mailboxes several times, but today I see that I was mistaken. Here they are.

That’s all for now. Is it spring yet? Here is a postcard of a painting by Lee Lawson called “Winter Dance.” This dance is very familiar to me. Let’s try another one!

<img
