I’m finding that the weather puts a serious crimp in my blogging style, which is mostly about walking around taking pictures. It’s too cold to walk around much, and not only that, my camera freezes up and the zoom won’t zoom.

But it might be more than that. I think some people suffer from seasonal inertia, kind of like human hibernation. For example, I’ve watched some movies that I can’t seem to get around to reviewing.

Children of Men (2006) is really good. Watch it! I also took a look at a double bill on a theme of Europeans in Asia: The Painted Veil (2006) and The Lover (1992). I’m pretty much the only person who likes The Lover, an erotic tale of a young French girl in colonial Vietnam and her older Chinese lover. But I like it a lot.

I hope you’ll enjoy reading my reviews of those movies, if I ever get around to writing them.

(Updated Jan 27: I’ve posted a review of Children of Men. Also Dreamgirls.)

(Feb.3: I caught up on all the movies!)

It’s not that there is nothing going on in the winter, but a lot of it is inward or just unbloggable. For example, my recent posts about the confessions of married people got me thinking about my own life of relationships, and at one point I even posted a picture of myself and one of my old girlfriends.

I was going to show you a picture of her and me looking all cute and youthful and lovey-dovey, and then I was going to say, “We really had fun. I’m so glad we didn’t get married!” But it didn’t feel right so I took it down. I haven’t seen her in a long time and she hasn’t given her permission to be blogged.

Today I had my yearly medical checkup. (Well, it’s been four years, but you get the idea.) It was really quite interesting, in blog terms: unfamiliar bus ride to the medical building, bunch of sick people in the waiting room, ditzy drug salesgirl, attractive Bosnian nurse that took my blood, and so on. But I didn’t even take my camera. Too cold. And as for the details of my medical checkup, forget it! Too personal for a blog.

Some of the blogs I read are fearless about blogging their medical problems and current relationships. I don’t know how they do it. I notice that some of them do it for awhile and then stop, and sometimes after they stop they even shut down the blog.

I also notice some of the picture-of-the-day blogs I look at are having a hard time coming up with one every day. They resort to ransacking their archives, like this one: Wasted Photos.

I like this blog, but maybe they shouldn’t have promised to post a picture every day. Maybe I shouldn’t have said I’d write a review of every movie I watch!

I think there is lots still to learn about what blogging is all about. It’s possible that it’s just a passing fad and in ten years nobody will even think of doing it. It will be one of those quaint things we used to do in the old days, like smoking cigarettes and talking on cell phones while driving cars through red lights. But I could be wrong.

I can’t wait for the flip-flop mayor to introduce his budget. And eventually the All-Star break will end and my team will get back to playing hockey. Hockey and the mayor are always bloggable, at least in an emergency.

I was going through some old pictures of my life, scanning them into the computer, when I came upon this shot of some cat getting his picture taken.

I can’t remember his name but it looks like we were real pals. I like this kind of scrappy little cat. The kind that looks like he might pick your pocket if you don’t keep an eye on him.

Cute little cats are always bloggable. Bye for now!
