At Rib Fest on Sparks St.

Actually they don’t look too bad…

but vegetarians might as well stay home.

Texas rib attitude

dsc_7930.jpg

No, I didn’t have any ribs. I thought the whole thing was kind of excessive and greasy and low-class. But that’s just me.

Then on my way home I saw this statue of George Brown and a friend. I love it when statues of famous guys have birds on their heads.

Of course, I’ve already posted the true historical facts about George Brown:
History lesson
Don’t miss it!

And I posted a picture from the rib fest once before:

My camera battery died just before I got to that yellow sign. glad you got it.

That Brown statue baffled me. What’s with the people penitent at the feet of leaders theme among statuary?

Have you noticed people love their picture taken with the suffragette tea party more than any other statue on the Hill?

Hi Pearl. I think the people at the base of the statues are meant to represent those that the great man speaks on behalf of: his constituents, the little people who rely on him to be their voice, who in statuary terms act as his muse. So I don’t see them as being penitent. You could be right though. And yes, people do love the suffragettes!

Updated: I noticed the Citizen had an article on Friday explaining the symbolism of a number of the statues. Here it is:

Ya, I don’t know why this pig-out is necessary.
