The parking lot at my street corner, Cambridge and Somerset, is known as Cambridge Park for the duration of FestivAsia. They’ve put up a mural for the occasion.
This picture shows the police chief, city councillor Diane Holmes, and various other dignitaries posing in front of the mural.

What’s going on in the mural? Is that guy shooting at the dragon? Is he taking its picture? Look at these cops protecting the kids out in front of Yangtze restaurant.

Here’s the answer. That’s a pretty fast dragon! (73 mph, in case you were wondering.)

The dragon.

Happy blogiversary to me!
My first blog post was a year ago, and it was about FestivAsia, although at that time I didn’t know its name. I thought it was called AsianFest. I’ll be posting some more later on, because I’m feeling a little nostalgic.
For now, here’s Mayor Larry O’Brien with a young Asian voter. In the flesh!

We were at that too. I wondered about the symbolism of the mural. It’s comical and good-hearted no doubt but also seems to say China is fast, authorities are watching with a speed gun and the uniformed authority of government will hold people back from the icon of heritage. Maybe that’s only what I take away. I wonder what locals think.
Hi Pearl, I overlooked the symbolism, but of course it’s there. There was quite a strong police theme to the whole event, including chief Vern White speaking at the opening ceremony and the presence of a recruiting booth.
Happy Blogiversary Robin! Keep up the good work.
That’s one pink mayor we’ve got.
Thanks for all your encouragement zoom.
Mayor Larry’s cooked like a lobster. That’s why he’s so pink.
