Great photo. Two questions… how did you approach her, and how many shots did you take?

The bruise-like yellow around her armpit is fantastic.

I’d be willing to bet Robin did NOT approach, but took this photo from far away, correct?? It IS a great shot and a really wild tattoo

Hi Gabriel, nice to hear from you. Glad you like the pic.

XUP is right; it’s a candid street photo. But I wasn’t THAT far away.

Hmm, ‘bruise-like’… I didn’t think of it that way, but I did desaturate the colour red in post-processing, to minimize the distracting effect of the Petro-can sign. That made the subject’s skin tone more golden than it really was. I like the effect.

I wasn’t sure… I saw how pulled together everything was and assumed you were using a telephoto of some kind, but if it was someone you knew maybe you were closer and maybe using a 70mm.

I like the effect, but going the other way might be interesting as well… popping the colours brighter but washing her out.

I haven’t been out shooting in public in years, so I know how difficult it can be pulling the camera out on a day lit sidewalk. How big is the setup you walk around with? I’ve got two SLR’s and the appropriate lenses but I’m down to using a pocket digital.

    Hi Gabriel,
I do haul around a couple of DSLRs, and I know exactly what you mean. This day I was using a Canon superzoom S5-IS. Much less conspicuous.
