I’m sure you’ve been wondering what happened to Manphat Grocery, right next door to Lim Bangkok at the corner of Booth and Somerset.

I don’t have any idea except that they got themselves into over $7500 of rent trouble.

It might be tempting to blame this on the opening of the giant T&T store on Hunt Club Rd., but it happened three months ago. I think T&T will have some kind of effect on businesses in Chinatown but it’s too soon to tell exactly what it will be.

Here’s another big root.

There’s a new Asian grocery story at Rochester and Somerset – they also carry a few Western items, like milk and bread, and they have a take-out counter at the back.
