I spent some time on Wellington where Tamils have blockaded the street. They’re trying to call attention to genocide in Sri Lanka.
This was yesterday. According to CBC news, today there are ten times as many people down there.

I found it a moving event. The drumming was infectious, and I liked the fact that although there was a strong police presence, they were only there to maintain order. There was no whiff of tear gas and no heads were being cracked.

Sometimes I still feel proud to live in this country, which in some ways really is a peaceable kingdom. It’s not clear to me how Canada can help with the plight of the Tamils, but I like it that they’re being given every opportunity to explain their position.
