Whalesbone

I’m so glad to see the construction on Bank St. finally finished, the sidewalks teeming with walkers, and the businesses (those that survived) coming back to life. Here’s Whalesbone Oyster House, 430 Bank.

I like the new artist-designed bike racks, like the one you can see in this picture. But other than that, this streetscape renovation is oblivious to bikes. If anything, the widened sidewalks leave cyclists with even less room than they had before to try and pass by the parked cars without getting doored. It’s the same in Westboro and on the redesigned Preston — Ottawa city planners stubbornly do not get it about bikes.

Oh well…

    And I wonder why it is that those new bike racks are just about exactly the size of car doors? Okay. With the windows rolled down, but still
