2046 (2005)

Directed by Wong Kar-wai (In the Mood for Love). In Chinese with English subtitles.

A strange, moody, passionate, puzzling, smouldering movie on the theme of unrequited love.

A writer (Tony Leung) writes his own story. Characters love and are loved, never the right one, never by the right one. 2046 is both a hotel room and a time or place in the future, from which no one ever returns. Also stars Li Gong (Miami Vice), Ziyi Zhang (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), and Maggie Cheung (Chinese Box).

I plan to watch it again. Maybe then I’ll have more to say about it. For now I just want to say: See it. It’s gorgeous. This is a good one!
