Stardust (2007)
December 22nd, 2007
This is a fantasy in the vein of The Princess Bride. Its vision is sweeping, especially in the beginning, when it ricochets wildly among the earth, a fantasy earth situated ‘across the wall,’ and the stars. In the end there is a commoner who becomes a king, marries a star, and lives happily ever after.
Starring Claire Danes, still best to known to some (including me) for her role as angst-ridden teenager Angela Chase in the 1994-1995 TV series “My So-Called Life.” Also features Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Charlie Cox. Sienna Miller is along for the ride, and Peter O’Toole plays the dying king.
This movie suffers somewhat from overacting, especially by Danes as the star and De Niro as a swishy pirate. It’s billed as family entertainment, and I’m sure kids would like the visuals, but most of the humour seems aimed at adult viewers. I loved it.
