François Truffaut’s famous debut film about a teenager who runs away from home and gets into trouble. In French with subtitles, shot in black and white.
(Shrug) It’s ok. Famous cultural icons can’t always live up to their hype, and for me this one doesn’t. It’s similar in some ways to Godard’s 1964 Bande à part - rebellious teenagers larking about in Paris - but Godard’s take is lighter and for my money, a great deal more charming.
No matter! I’m glad I finally saw it. It is a classic and you should see it, if only to complete your film education.
Maybe you’ll like it more than I did. Then you can leave me a comment explaining why.
